This is primarily dependent on the drive of your device. Depending on the equipment of the lawn tractor, a mechanical, non-synchronized gear or a hydrostatic gear can be used. Mechanical gears are filled with gear grease as a permanent filling.

Hydrostatic transmissions, on the other hand, are filled with a suitable multigrade oil.

Hydro-Gear transmission: multigrade oil of viscosity class SAE 20W-50, filling quantity: 2.3 liters
Tuff-Torq gearbox: multigrade oil of viscosity class SAE 10W-30, filling quantity: 1.9 liters.
